Kalaburagi, Karnataka, July 11, 2025: Three economically disadvantaged prisoners were released from Kalaburagi Central Jail on Thursday, July 10, following the intervention of the Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust and the Prison Ministry of India (PMI) unit of the Gulbarga Diocese. The prisoners—Shubash Shivarai Natikar (Prisoner No. 1258), Shrikanth Chinnu (No. 1733), and Sharanappa Narasappa (No. 1305)—had completed their prison terms but remained incarcerated due to their inability to pay a mandatory fine of ₹10,000 each.
Upon receiving a formal request from the Chief Superintendent of the Central Jail, Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust took up the matter. In coordination with PMI Gulbarga, the Trust facilitated the payment of the fines required for the release of all three individuals. The amount was paid through official cheques submitted to the jail authorities.
The release process was coordinated by Fr. William OCD, Secretary of the Carmel Jyothi Public Charitable Trust, and Fr. Maxim, who represented the PMI unit of the Gulbarga Diocese.
This intervention forms part of a broader initiative by Carmel Jyothi Trust and PMI Gulbarga to assist individuals trapped within the justice system due to financial hardship, affirming their commitment to human dignity and social reintegration.
