Caritas India has Commenced its Lenten Campaign 2024

New Delhi, February 18, 2024: Caritas India has commenced its Lenten Campaign, marking the start of a period dedicated to addressing issues of poverty, hunger, and social justice. The official launch took place on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in New Delhi, with Archbishop Anil Joseph Thomas Couto, Secretary General of CCBI and the Archbishop of Delhi, leading the inauguration.


During the Holy Mass, Archbishop Anil emphasized the imperative of reaching out to the poor and needy, underscoring the significance of sharing resources to assist those in need. "It is our responsibility to share our resources to assist the people in need. The observance of Lent becomes meaningful by our sharing approaches," said the prelate during his homily.


The Holy Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Dr. Stephen Alathara, Deputy Secretary General of CCBI, Rev. Fr. Jolly Puthenura, Assistant Executive Director, Caritas India, Fr Sunil Crasta, Director, Chetanalaya, Delhi, Fr Sunil Augustine, Director Faridabad Social Service Society, Fr Maria Charles, S.D.B., Secretary, CBCI Office for Education, Fr George Nirapukalayil, Secretary, CBCI Office for Labour, Fr Sushil Modi, Administrator, Caritas India and Fr. Francis Swaminathan, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Cathedral, New Delhi.


The Lenton campaign 2024 poster by Caritas India was unveiled in a poignant ceremony following a Eucharistic celebration, symbolizing a collective commitment to compassion and spiritual renewal.


This Lenten season, Caritas India's campaign, titled "Fraternity in Humanity: Together with Everyone," focuses on raising awareness and seeking support for the poor and marginalized, particularly against hunger and disease. Through initiatives like this, Caritas India aims to engage individuals and communities in acts of charity and solidarity, encompassing fundraising efforts, educational programs, advocacy for policy change, and practical assistance to address various challenges faced by communities in need.


As Caritas India continues its mission of promoting human dignity and social justice, the Lenten Campaign serves as a platform to rally support and inspire action towards creating a more just and compassionate society.
