Vatican, 1 May 2025 — The College of Cardinals, currently gathered in Rome for the General Congregations ahead of the Papal Conclave, has issued a call to the faithful, urging them to treat this moment as one of grace and spiritual discernment.
In an official statement from the Holy See, the Cardinals invited the People of God to listen to the will of God in prayer, as they prepare to elect the next Pope. They stressed the importance of spiritual unity and support, recognising the weight of their responsibility.
The Cardinals, aware of the task before them, said they rely on the prayers of the faithful to sustain them. This unity in prayer, they noted, is what strengthens the Body of Christ, citing 1 Corinthians 12:12.
Highlighting the urgency of the time, the statement called for humility and docility to the Holy Spirit. The Cardinals described themselves as instruments of God's providence and affirmed that it is God who leads His Church. They urged the Church to listen to His voice, as reflected in Revelation 3:6.
The statement concluded with an invocation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, asking for her maternal intercession during this time of transition and discernment.
