Bihar Regional Ecology Commission Strengthens Ecological Resolve

Patna, December 5, 2025: The Bihar Regional Ecology Commission convened its Core Committee Meeting at Tarumitra Ashram, Patna, focusing on collaborative ecological efforts and strategies for environmental stewardship. Archbishop Sebastian Kallupura emphasized the Church's role in protecting the environment, while Bishop Kurien Valiakandathil highlighted the importance of unified action.


Sr Jonita Dungdung, National Secretary, and Fr George Joseph, Regional Secretary for Ecology, joined diocesan secretaries and accompanying delegates from all dioceses of Bihar in the deliberations. The day focused on strengthening collaborative ecological efforts and outlining strategies for action.


The meeting brought together diocesan secretaries and representatives, who engaged with insights from Fr. Robert SJ and Fr. Toni SJ on ecological spirituality and practical environmental engagement. A symbolic sapling planting by Archbishop Kallupura underscored the commitment to environmental protection. The commission resolved to intensify ecological awareness and implement initiatives across Bihar's dioceses.


As part of the day’s proceedings, Archbishop Kallupura planted a sapling on the Ashram grounds, symbolising the shared commitment to protecting and nurturing the environment.


The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to intensify ecological awareness and implement concrete environmental initiatives throughout the Bihar Region.
