Chennai, October 22, 2025 — The Young Christian Students–Young Students Movement (YCS–YSM) Leadership Training Programme was held successfully at St Joseph’s Anglo-Indian Boys Higher Secondary School, Vepery, bringing together student leaders and animators from across the region for a day of learning, reflection, and inspiration.
The programme began with a prayer, followed by the introduction of the resource person, Fr Varun Richard, Assistant Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Church, Vepery, and a former YCS–YSM member. Students, divided into groups with their animators, participated in ice breakers and action songs organised by local youth and volunteers, setting a lively and engaging tone.
Fr Varun led the main session on “What is Leadership?”, “Who is a True Leader?” and “The Qualities of a True Leader.” His interactive talk, combined with games and reflections, helped participants understand that true leadership is rooted in service and responsibility. The students of the host school also presented a street play on leadership, which captured the audience’s attention and illustrated the theme creatively.
The session on “YCS/YSM Methodology and Leadership in Action,” explored the challenges of leadership in everyday life. Fr Varun reminded the participants that “Small actions make a big difference.” Former animator Ms Princess Beula and Ms Monet Renee, National Secretary, shared their personal experiences and encouraged the students to be courageous and compassionate leaders in their communities.
The event was well coordinated by Bro. Deepak, in collaboration with Fr Varun Richard, youth volunteers, and animators Mrs Benisha and Mrs Grace Paul. A total of 21 schools participated in the programme, with 185 students and 29 animators taking part.
