St. Luke’s Medical Guild Hosts Bioethics Workshop for Catholic Doctors in Goa

Pilar, Goa, April 5, 2025: The Goa chapter of the St. Luke’s Medical Guild (SLMG) conducted a one-day Bioethics Workshop for Catholic doctors on March 30, 2025, at the Pilar Seminary. Organised to train the participants in dealing with ethically challenging scenarios in their daily practice, the workshop drew around 50 guild members. Father Christopher Vimalraj of the Bangalore Archdiocese, a respected stalwart in bioethics, served as the resource person for the event.

The workshop commenced with a Eucharistic celebration, setting a reflective and spiritual tone for the day. Father Christopher Vimalraj then led a series of insightful lectures that explored the foundations of bioethics, its importance, and its practical relevance in the daily lives of Catholic healthcare professionals.

Participants were then divided into smaller groups and presented with ethically complex medical case scenarios. These breakout sessions sparked engaging discussions, fostering peer learning and encouraging practical engagement with real-world ethical dilemmas faced by doctors.

The workshop was well-received and marked a meaningful step towards strengthening ethical awareness within the Guild. One of the key outcomes of the event was the proposal to establish a dedicated bioethics subgroup within SLMG to support members facing morally challenging situations in their practice. The idea was met with enthusiasm from all the participants, and preliminary steps toward the formation of the subgroup have already begun.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks and a shared lunch, reinforcing the spirit of community, reflection, and commitment among the attendees.
