Passion Play Illuminates Pilar Hill, Goa with “Uzvaddacho Uzvadd, Jivitachem Jivit”

Pilar Hill, Goa, 5 April, 2025 — In a moving tribute to the Jubilee Year and Pope Francis’ bull, Hope Does Not Disappoint Us, the Society of Pilar Missionaries staged the operetta Uzvaddacho Uzvadd, Jivitachem Jivit (Light of Light, Life of Life) on Pilar Hill, saturday at 7:30 PM.

Conceived by Fr. Peter Cardozo during mealtime conversations with his community, the vision was brought to life with the support of his fellow friars and superiors. Originally performed in 1985 with audiences moving from scene to scene, the operetta returned in a modern avatar—infused with theatrical innovation, dramatic lighting, and captivating visuals.

Scripted by Fr. Domnic Alvares and Fr. Diogo Roger D’Souza, and set to music by Fr. Cardozo, the production conveyed a stirring narrative of Christ’s Passion with theological richness and artistic flair. Directed by Fr. Ze. Baptista and coordinated by Fr. Elvis Fernandes, the operetta echoed the Jubilee themes of faith, grace, and renewal.

Memorable scenes included Jesus’ probing question, “Who do you say I am?”, His rebuke of Peter, and the emotional raising of Lazarus. The Passion, from betrayal to Resurrection, unfolded with reverence and depth, drawing tears and applause.

Fr. D’Souza closed the evening with a sincere vote of thanks, acknowledging all who made the production possible. Benefactors were honoured with tokens of appreciation.

Uzvaddacho Uzvadd, Jivitachem Jivit stood not just as a performance but as a powerful call to walk in faith. It affirmed the Society of Pilar’s mission—to share the light and life of Christ through art, evoking hope and renewal in all who attended.
