New Delhi, July 28, 2025 — Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has issued a strong condemnation of the recent detention of two Christian nuns at Durg Railway Station in Chhattisgarh. In a statement posted on Facebook on July 28, she described the incident, which occurred on 25 July, as “shocking” and said it marked a serious attack on the rights of minorities in the country.
The two detained nuns, identified as Sister Vandanha and Sister Preethi, were reportedly held along with others on allegations of conversion and trafficking. Priyanka Gandhi criticised the action, stating that it was carried out “without legal basis” and based on “false allegations.”
Calling attention to the broader implications, she stated, “This is not an isolated case — under BJP rule, minorities are being systematically harassed and vilified.”
She further asserted that mob justice and communal targeting “have no place in our democracy,” and emphasised that “the rule of law must prevail.”
