Vatican City, May 8, 2025: The 133 voting cardinals participating in the papal conclave have gathered once again in the Sistine Chapel to cast their votes in the third ballot of the day.
The first two rounds of voting, held earlier this morning, did not result in the election of a new pope. Black smoke billowing from the chapel chimney around 12:00 p.m. Rome time (3:30 p.m. IST) signalled that no candidate had received the required majority.
Should the third ballot also end without a decision, a fourth and final vote for the day will be held at approximately 7:00 p.m. Rome time (10:30 p.m. IST).
