Ernakulam, August 27, 2025 – The Annual National Youth Directors' Meet 2025 was held at Ashirbhawan, Ernakulam, on 21 August, following two days of intensive deliberations and spiritual enrichment. The gathering brought together 121 participants, including diocesan youth secretaries, regional youth secretaries, movement directors, council members, and special invitees from across the nation.
The meeting was graciously hosted by Fr. Anoop, Regional Youth Secretary of the Kerala Region, whose team provided exemplary hospitality and offered participants an authentic taste of Kerala's rich cultural heritage, including special Onam celebrations. The organisers ensured a memorable experience with a scenic boat ride and a comprehensive sightseeing tour on the final day, showcasing Kerala's natural beauty.
Distinguished Leadership
The two-day conference was chaired by Bishop Ignatius D'Souza, Chairman of the Youth Commission, together with Bishop Jayarao Polimera, Member Bishop, and Bishop Christudas Rajappan, Member Bishop. Fr. Chetan Machado, Executive Secretary, and Fr. John Barman, Associate Youth Secretary, were also present throughout the proceedings, providing valuable guidance and support.
Spiritual Foundation
The inaugural Holy Mass was celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Antony of Verapoly, with Bishop Jayarao delivering an inspiring homily that set the spiritual tone for the gathering. On the second day, Chairman Bishop Ignatius D'Souza celebrated the Mass and preached the Word of God, emphasising the importance of youth ministry in today’s Church.
Comprehensive Deliberations
The meeting served as a dynamic platform for in-depth discussions, with youth directors seeking clarifications on various aspects of youth ministry and commission operations. All youth movements presented detailed reports highlighting their activities and achievements over the past year. A significant highlight was the progress report of the CCBI Youth Commission, which outlined major initiatives and future roadmaps.
Strategic Planning and Vision
Participants engaged in meaningful deliberations on new strategies and action plans to strengthen youth ministry nationwide. The discussions focused on addressing contemporary challenges faced by Catholic youth and developing innovative approaches to engagement and spiritual formation.
During the plenary sessions, Fr. Chetan Machado addressed numerous questions raised by participants, providing clarity on operational and strategic matters related to the Youth Commission's functioning. The chairman and member bishops also felicitated the regional team during the plenary.
