MSFS Fathers Organise Lenten Retreat in Hindi for Chotanagpur Migrants in Goa

Cotta de Fatorpa, Goa, April 8, 2025: Priests belonging to the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS) congregation in Goa conducted a Lenten retreat in Hindi on Sunday, April 6, for the Chotanagpur migrants residing in Cuncolim and Cotto de Fatorpa. The one-day gathering, aimed at deepening the faith of the migrant community, was held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cotto de Fatorpa, and focused on the theme of "God-Centred Family".

The retreat was led by Fr. Edal Kumar MSFS, a noted preacher. During the event, Fr. Edal Kumar emphasised the essential values and principles needed to foster strong, God-centred families. He also highlighted the importance of faith, unity, and prayer in strengthening family bonds. He urged the attendees to root their lives in Christ and place God at the centre of their lives.

The retreat also featured a solemn Mass, with Fr. Dilipe Tete MSFS as the main celebrant. In addition to the Mass, the faithful were offered the opportunity to receive the sacrament of Confession, with Fr. Suman Indwar SFX and Fr. Kimrol D’Melo SDB administering the sacrament.

Fr. Jose Fernandes MSFS, the parish priest of Our Lady of Fatima Church, was instrumental in coordinating the retreat. Speaking to Catholic Connect, Fr. Jose remarked, “We have organised this retreat to help the migrants understand the love of God and His holiness. It serves as a spiritual preparation for them as they approach Easter. We also wanted them to understand the true purpose of the season of Lent.”

The MSFS Fathers, who frequently celebrate the Sunday Mass for the migrant community, were pleased to see such positive engagement from the participants. The retreat, conducted entirely in Hindi, resonated deeply with the attendees, offering them a chance to reflect on their faith and prepare spiritually for the Easter season.
