Mangaluru, April 17, 2025 — The Sandesha Summer Camp 2025 concluded with a vibrant grand finale at the Sandesha Foundation for Culture and Education in Mangaluru, on April 16. The event brought together 152 participants—ranging in age from three to sixty years—to showcase their artistic achievements after weeks of training in music, dance, theatre, and visual arts. Organized by the Foundation, the finale celebrated the participants' creative growth and marked the end of a dynamic and inclusive summer initiative.
Rev. Fr. Sudeep Paul, Director of the Sandesha Foundation, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the camp’s role in nurturing talent and fostering cultural education. He also introduced the Chief Guest for the evening, Mr. Ashwin D’Costa—an alumnus of a similar summer camp and now a renowned performer and software professional. He was joined by Mrs. Cynthia Viegas, Parent Representative, and Mr. Kamalakar Seth, the seniormost staff member at Sandesh with over five decades of service
Delivering the keynote address, Ashwin D’Costa inspired the audience with his personal journey from a shy schoolboy attending a summer camp to becoming a global performer. He also spoke candidly about a serious physical injury that sidelined him from performing for a long period. “It was one of the hardest phases of my life, but it also became a turning point. I began to write songs, learn instruments like the guitar and ukulele, and discover a new side of myself,” he remakred,.
Emphasizing the lifelong value of pursuing artistic passions, even for those in demanding professions like his own, Aswin said that “music, dance, and creativity helps him stay connected to himself, manage work stress, and brings meaning to his life. “Let no one tell you that your artistic pursuits are secondary. They are what make you whole,” he added.
Encouraging the young performers, Ashwin left them with an empowering message: “This stage might seem small today, but it could be your first step to the world stage tomorrow. Every note you sing, every beat you play, every move you dance—matters. So give your best, believe in your voice, and let your light shine.” His speech was met with a resounding applause, inspiring not only the campers but also parents, staff, and guests.
The finale event showcased an impressive lineup of performances by the camp participants. From Hindustani and Western vocals to keyboard, guitar, violin, and drums, display of their drawing and paintings, students displayed the skills they had honed over the past weeks. The audience was also treated to vibrant Western dance performances and confident public speaking presentations, reflecting the campers’ creative growth and confidence.
All participants received certificates and mementos in recognition of their involvement. Special awards were presented to outstanding students, and mentors were honoured for their dedication and guidance.
Adding an educational dimension to the evening, the event also saw the release of Unlocking the Keys: A Simple Introduction to Electronic Keyboards by veteran music educator Desmond D’Cunha. The book, aimed at beginners, was officially released by Mr. D’Costa and the first copy was presented to Mrs. Cynthia Viegas, the Parent Representative,
The grand finale stood as a testament to Sandesha’s ongoing commitment to cultural education and artistic empowerment. As the camp concluded, it left behind not just memories, but a lasting inspiration for the participants to continue exploring and expressing their artistic potential.
