RAIGARH, April 17, 2025 — The Diocese of Raigarh held a two-day Synodal Discernment session from April 14 to 15 at the diocesan pastoral centre in Raigarh. The event also featured the celebration of the annual Chrism Mass on the second day. The event gathered clergy, religious, and lay leaders from across the Diocese of Raigarh. The session aimed to foster spiritual renewal among the participants and deepen the synodal journey of the diocese, in line with the vision of the 36th Plenary Assembly of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), held earlier this year in Bhubaneswar.
The sessions during the event were led by Fr. John Punnoor, from the Archdiocese of Raipur, who also serves as the *Chhattisgarh Regional Secretary of the CCBI. Over two days, Fr. Punnoor guided participants through interactive discussions and prayerful reflections. His rich insights into the themes of Communion, Participation, and Mission offered attendees a new lens to view the Synodal journey. he also emphasised the essential role of the Holy Spirit in the synodal process, saying, “Listening to the Holy Spirit births communion, and mission is the fruit of it.”
His Grace, Bishop Paul Toppo of Raigarh, remained present throughout the event, offering his full support and spiritual guidance. His involvement added profound depth to the program. His teachings highlighted the beauty of collective listening, dialogue, and spiritual openness, which form the backbone of a synodal Church.
The event witnessed active participation from priests, religious sisters, and representatives of the Diocesan Executive Committees of the Women’s Commission, Youth Commission, and Catholic Sabha. The Chrism Mass, celebrated in conjunction with the session, became a powerful symbol of unity and renewed commitment to the Church’s mission.
Attendees described their experience as spiritually enriching and deeply moving, noting that the gathering not only strengthened their faith but also rekindled in them a strong hope for a Synodal Church.
