“Mother Mary Drew Me Closer to Jesus”: A Protestant Nurse's Healing Testimony

October 19, 2025:

For most of her life, Angel Francis never believed in the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Born and brought up in a devout Protestant family, she had been taught that praying to Mary was nothing more than idol worship. But what began as deep scepticism transformed into a story of faith, forgiveness, and miraculous healing — a journey that Angel now shares with a heart full of gratitude.

From Doubt to Discovery

“I was raised in a Protestant household,” Angel begins. “My parents and siblings were all Protestants, and in our church, devotion to Mary simply didn’t exist. We saw her as a statue or a picture, not someone to pray to.”

Years later, when she married a Catholic man devoted to the Rosary, Angel found herself constantly questioning him. “I would often ask, ‘Why pray through Mary? Why not directly to Jesus?’” she recalls with a gentle laugh. Her husband would patiently respond, encouraging her to try it once — to pray the Rosary and see for herself.

After much persuasion, Angel agreed. “He taught me the Three Hail Marys and asked me to pray thrice a day — morning, noon and evening,” she says. What began as a reluctant gesture soon became a spiritual awakening. “Slowly, something stirred within me. My heart began to change.”

The Turning Point at Potta

One day, Angel felt an inner calling to attend a retreat at the Divine Retreat Centre in Potta, Kerala. “I went alone because my husband couldn’t join me,” she recalls. “The first two days, I wasn’t moved at all. But on the third day, when the talk on Mother Mary began, everything changed.”

As the speaker described Mary’s love, compassion, and suffering, Angel’s heart melted. “Tears began to flow. For the first time, I understood who Mary truly was — not an idol, but a loving mother who intercedes for her children.”

Overcome with repentance, Angel confessed her past disbelief and accepted Mother Mary deeply into her heart. “That day,” she says, “I bought a Rosary. I didn’t even know how to pray it — how to count the beads or say the prayers. But slowly, I learnt.”

Miracles of Healing

After returning home, Angel placed a statue of Mary on a small altar and began praying the Rosary daily with her husband. Then came a life-changing trial. “I suffered three heart attacks,” she recounts calmly. “The first was at home, the second at Lourdes Church, and the third while praying in front of a grotto.”

Even as pain overwhelmed her, Angel didn’t stop praying. “I was in agony, but I kept praying through Mother Mary’s intercession. When my prayer ended, the pain disappeared.”

Soon after, she underwent open-heart surgery, which she describes as a turning point in her life. “Through Mary’s intercession, God granted me complete healing — physical, mental, and spiritual. Since then, my life has been full of her blessings and miracles.”

A Heart Forever Changed

Today, Angel calls herself a true devotee of the Blessed Mother. “I can never forget the grace I received,” she says with conviction. “Through every suffering, Mother Mary has drawn me closer to Jesus. I now understand that praying through her is praying with love, faith, and humility.”

Angel concludes with gratitude: “I thank God and Assisi Media for allowing me to share this testimony. My life was changed by Mary’s intercession — and through her, I found healing, peace, and faith.”

Indeed, from disbelief to devotion, Angel Francis’s journey reminds us that grace often arrives when hearts open — and miracles follow when faith takes root.
