Media Course for Religious Sisters Launched at Pauline Communication Centre, Mumbai

Mumbai, May 6, 2025 – A media course titled “Empowering Sisters for the Media Mission” was launched on May 5 at the Pauline Communication Centre in Mumbai. The initiative, spearheaded by the Daughters of St Paul, aims to train religious sisters in media skills to enhance their communication outreach. The inaugural function of the course was attended by nuns from various congregations.


The day commenced with Rev. Sr. Maria Rekha fsp extending a warm welcome to all the participants. This was followed by an introductory address from Rev. Sr. Matilda D’Souza, FSP, Provincial Superior of the Daughters of St Paul, who outlined the course objectives and structure to the gathered participants.


Following this, Rev. Sr. Vaveinai Rita FSP, who was the resource person for the day, led the participants in a session focused on photography. Her engaging session covered key topics such as the history and evolution of photography, camera types and their handling, and principles of good composition, including the rule of thirds, framing, and leading lines. A detailed discussion on lighting techniques, both natural and artificial, helped participants understand how to adapt to various photographic conditions.


In addition, participants were introduced to the basics of short film production. The session covered essential elements such as camera techniques, editing, understanding different camera angles and movements, visual composition, assembling footage, adding transitions, and enhancing narrative flow. Through these exercises, participants learnt how to craft engaging and impactful videos that effectively capture and retain the attention of the audience.


The sessions conducted during the day were both engaging and informative. Participants gained a solid understanding of the fundamentals of photography and had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with cameras. Many expressed enthusiasm about continuing the course and improving their skills in multimedia.
