Kolkata, August 19, 2025 – The newly appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Calcutta, the Most. Rev. Dr. Elias Frank, arrived this morning at the Archbishop’s House on Park Street, where he was warmly received by the Archbishop of Calcutta, the Most Revd. Thomas D’Souza, Vicar General Fr. Dominic Gomes, and the staff of the Archbishop’s House.

Bishop Elias was greeted in the courtyard with an embrace from Archbishop D’Souza, followed by felicitations from the Vicar General and staff, who presented him with bouquets. He was accompanied by the Bishop Emeritus of Asansol, the Rt. Revd. Cyprian Monis, and the Vicar General of Asansol.

Archbishop Thomas D’Souza expressed that the arrival of Bishop Elias Frank was a moment of grace for the Archdiocese, bringing renewed hope and strength. “We thank God for this gift and assure you of our sincere prayers and wholehearted collaboration as you begin your pastoral ministry in our midst. May your time with us be filled with peace, joy, and the loving support of all our faithful. With deep gratitude and great happiness, we warmly welcome you, dear Bishop, to the Archbishop’s House,” he said.

Tomorrow morning, he will formally assume office in a solemn ceremony at the Archbishop’s House, where he will present his letter of appointment—conferred by Pope Leo XIV—to Archbishop D’Souza in the presence of the Archdiocesan College of Consultors.
