Jubilee Year 2025 Seminar on 'Lumen Gentium' Enriches Faith Community

Bareilly, March 5, 2025: In celebration of Jubilee 2025, the Catholic Diocese of Bareilly organised a seminar on Lumen Gentium, a pivotal document of the Second Vatican Council across multiple deaneries, between February 9 and 26. The seminar aimed to deepen understanding of the Church’s teachings by exploring the document’s eight chapters through an interactive, discussion-based format.

The seminar in Bareilly was led by Most Rev. Ignatius D’Souza (February 9), while Rev. Fr. Rudolf Rodrigues conducted the session in Poliganj (February 12). Rev. Fr. Alok Nayak facilitated the seminar in Kathgodam (February 26), with an additional session in Rudrapur. Future seminars are planned for Shahjahanpur Deanery with Most Rev. Ignatius D’Souza and Bazpur Deanery with Rev. Fr. Ashok Masih.

The seminar on Lumen Gentium engaged a diverse Catholic audience, including laity, youth, priests, and religious members, many unfamiliar with Vatican II documents. Instead of lectures, interactive discussions explored each chapter, encouraging insights on its impact on daily faith and broader spiritual implications.

Participants responded enthusiastically, expressing a renewed understanding of Church teachings. The collaborative format fostered both theological learning and community bonding. Attendees highlighted how the event deepened their spiritual journey and strengthened their connection to the Church. The seminar’s success was evident in its ability to inspire greater appreciation for the Church’s rich heritage and mission.

The seminar has proven to be a significant and enriching event for the Catholic Diocese of Bareilly. By prioritising an inclusive and interactive learning approach, the initiative has deepened understanding of the Second Vatican Council’s teachings among a diverse audience. This model stands as a promising foundation for future educational and spiritual programs within the diocese.
