Itanagar Diocese Hosts Solemn Veneration of Regional Youth Convention Cross

Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, March 17, 2025 – The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) North East Chapter, in association with the Diocese of Itanagar, conducted the veneration of the Regional Youth Convention (RYC) Cross 2025 at Sacred Heart Parish Church, Naharlagun, on March 17, 2025. The event brought together over 180 young faithful from across the diocese in a solemn and prayerful gathering.

The event commenced with a prayerful procession, during which participants sang hymns of devotion. Following the procession, the youth entered the Sacred Heart Parish Church, where the RYC Cross was formally handed over to the executive committee members of the youth commission of Itanagar diocese. The handover ceremony was led by Rev. Fr. John Barman, Regional Youth Director, along with Sr. Wansuk Mary Lyngdoh, Regional Youth Lady Animator, and Miss Tai Jeming Moya, Regional Executive Committee Member. Representing the Diocese of Itanagar, Rev. Fr. Bamin Roshan Peter, Diocesan Youth Director; Mr. Tai Taniang, Diocesan Youth President; and Ms. Mallo Yapung, Diocesan Youth Secretary, received the Cross with reverence.

The highlight of the event was the Holy Mass, presided over by the Bishop of Itanagar Diocese, Most Rev. Benny Varghese. Concelebrants included Rev. Fr. John Barman, Rev. Fr. Jacob, and eight priests from city parishes. In his homily, Bishop Varghese encouraged the youth to remain steadfast in their Catholic faith, emphasising the importance of spiritual commitment in their lives.

Following the Mass, the veneration of the RYC Cross took place, creating a deeply moving spiritual experience for all attendees. An hour of adoration allowed youth leaders and participants to engage in praise and worship, praying fervently for the success of the Regional Youth Convention (RYC) 2025 of ICYM North East.

As a gesture of encouragement, Bishop Varghese gifted the youth with YOUCAT (Youth Catechism) books and Audio Bible tapes, strengthening their faith journey.

The veneration of the RYC Cross in the Itanagar Diocese was a heartfelt and spiritually enriching event, reinforcing the unity, devotion, and commitment of Catholic youth in the region.
