Chikmagalur, October 21, 2025 — In observance of Deepavali, the Chikmagalur Diocesan Interreligious Dialogue Commission, in partnership with the Karnataka Regional Interreligious Dialogue Commission, organised an Interreligious Dialogue programme on the theme “Belaku – The Light” at Spoorthi Sadan, the Chikmagalur Diocesan Pastoral Centre.
The program brought together leaders from various faith traditions, including Bishop Thomasappa Anthony Swamy of Chikmagalur, Shree Jayabasavananda Swami ji of Vishwa Dharmapeeta, Moulvi Janab Auranagazeb from Chikmagalur, Shree Bhagya from the Brahmakumari Spiritual Center, and Swamy Acharya. Also present were Fr. Vinay Kumar, Secretary of the Karnataka Regional Interreligious Dialogue Commission, and Fr. Kiran Melwin, Secretary of the Chikmagalur Diocesan Interreligious Dialogue Commission.
The speakers highlighted the universal symbolism of light as a force that dispels darkness and fosters unity among people of all faiths. Bishop Thomasappa Anthony Swamy reflected that “light knows no distinction or discrimination” and called on everyone to be “the light of Jesus Christ” through their actions. Swami Jayabasavananda echoed the sentiment, noting that light is a common thread among religions and that good deeds make one a beacon of light in society. Moulvi Janab Auranagazeb emphasized Islam’s contribution to spreading illumination and peace within communities.
Fr. Vinay Kumar welcomed the participants and introduced the theme of the day, while Fr. Melwin Kiran offered words of gratitude to the speakers and attendees for their valuable contributions. The event concluded with fellowship and refreshments arranged by Fr. Rayappa, Director of the Pastoral Center, creating an atmosphere of warmth, unity, and mutual respect.
The celebration of “Belaku – The Light” served as a reminder that every faith tradition, in its own way, invites humanity to be bearers of light, love, and hope in the world
