ICYM North East Youth Deepen Devotion to St. Gonsalo Garcia, Patron Saint of ICYM

Narengi, Assam, February 6, 2025 – Young Catholics from across Northeast India gathered at St. Francis de Sales Shrine, Narengi, on January 30th, 2025, to honor St. Gonsalo Garcia, the patron saint of the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM). The Indian Catholic Youth Movement—North East Region (ICYM NE), alongside their Diocesan Youth Directors (DYDs) and Diocesan Lady Animators (DYLAs), prayed the novena, strengthening their spiritual connection with the saint whose feast is celebrated on February 7.

Rev. Sr. Wansuk Mary Lyngdoh MSMHC, the Regional Youth Lady Animator (RYLA), played a pivotal role in bringing the REXCO-DEXCO together under one roof. The gathering fostered a sense of community and devotion as the youth prayed together, seeking the intercession of St. Gonsalo Garcia, the first Indian saint to be canonized.

Participants expressed a deepened understanding of the saint’s life and missionary sacrifice through the novena. The prayer service, marked by heartfelt devotion, inspired many to follow his example of faith and commitment. Organisers ensured a well-structured and meaningful celebration, allowing the youth to honour their patron saint in a fitting and solemn manner.

As ICYM NE continues to uphold the legacy of St. Gonsalo Garcia, the novena stands as a testament to the unwavering faith and enthusiasm of young Catholics in the region.
