Fr. Dr. Ramesh D’Souza Releases Tribute Song Honouring Pope Leo XIV on 8 August 2025

With reverence and jubilation, Fr. Dr. Ramesh D’Souza—renowned for his spiritually evocative musical compositions—has released a heartfelt English tribute song titled “White Smoke Rose Up So High” on 8 August 2025. The date carries special significance as it marks three months since the beginning of Pope Leo XIV’s papacy. This latest musical release stands as a touching gesture of congratulations, prayer, and honour to the Holy Father.

This song continues a spiritually rich musical journey that began earlier this year. On the very day Fr. Ramesh and his team completed recording their earlier composition, “Give Us a Shepherd, O Lord | A Prayer Song for the Papal Conclave,” the world witnessed the momentous event of white smoke rising from the Sistine Chapel—signalling the election of the new Pope. In what many saw as a divine coincidence, the team went on to release a Hindi celebratory track titled “Rome ke Aaangan Mein Nikla Safed Dhuaan,” also dedicated to Pope Leo XIV.

The release of the English version not only commemorates the Pope’s three-month milestone as the 267th successor to Saint Peter, but also looks ahead to another momentous occasion—his 70th birthday on 14 September 2025. The song offers heartfelt wishes and prayers for Pope Leo’s continued health, longevity, and spiritual leadership.

The lyrics of “White Smoke Rose Up So High” were co-written by Mr. Vijay John and Fr. Ramesh D’Souza. Fr. Ramesh also composed, directed, and performed the song. The track tells the story of Pope Leo XIV’s remarkable journey—from his humble beginnings to his current global mission as a spiritual leader who inspires millions around the world.

Pope Leo XIV is the first American and the first Augustinian to be elected to the papacy. The song reflects on his earlier ministry in Chicago, his outreach to the poor in Peru, his leadership within the Augustinian Order, and his dedicated service in Rome prior to his election.

More than a tribute, the composition is a musical prayer, calling on the global Catholic community to unite in support of Pope Leo XIV’s mission and wellbeing.

Fr. Ramesh and his team have invited the global Catholic faithful to join in this sacred celebration through the universal language of music. “Let us come together,” they urge, “and share this song with everyone we know—because music reaches God's ears faster than words.”
