Manipur, July 28, 2025: In a landmark development for the region’s educational and spiritual landscape, the foundation stone for the new St. Claret School was solemnly laid in Lamzang Village, Lamka, Manipur. The ceremony, marked by the presence of church leaders, clergy, and the local Catholic community, signified a major step towards the realisation of a long-standing mission to serve the area through quality education rooted in Christian values.
Fr. Athew Mathew, Parish Priest of Good Shepherd Parish, Lamka, welcomed the gathering with a heartfelt address. He thanked the Claretian missionaries for their consistent and committed service in the region and expressed his appreciation to the clergy, religious, and lay faithful who came together to witness and support the beginning of this significant initiative.
A prayer service followed, during which Fr. Joseph Mappila invoked God’s blessings on the new school site and addressed those present. He thanked all the priests, Sisters, church leaders, and community members gathered for the occasion.
In his remarks, Fr. Mappila shared the mission journey that led to this day, noting that the previous provincial administration had purchased and fenced the land. He explained that the new provincial administration, now in place for one year, is continuing that vision. “We are here for the people,” he affirmed, stressing that the construction of the school will proceed through loans and strong faith in community support.
Fr. Mappila emphasised that the school will serve not only the children of the area but the broader community as well. He urged both Christian and Catholic communities to remain united and cooperative, ensuring the school’s success and long-term impact.
Acknowledging future uncertainties, he reassured the attendees of their commitment to working hand in hand with the local community. The initial plan involves constructing a one-storey building with three to four rooms, which will be expanded based on need and circumstances. The Daughters of St. Thomas have been invited to take charge of the school’s administration.
Concluding his address, Fr. Mappila stated that the outcome of the project lies in God’s hands and the cooperation of the community. With collective effort and shared responsibility, the school can become a meaningful and lasting contribution to Lamzang Village and its future generations.
