Faith Formation Training Empowers Animators with YOUCAT and YCS/YSM Tools in Mysuru

Mysuru, July 28, 2025 – The Catechetical and Youth Commission of the Diocese of Mysore successfully conducted a one-day Animators’ Training and Faith Formation Programme at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre. The event aimed to equip catechism teachers, YCS/YSM animators, and youth leaders with practical tools to guide young minds in faith, values, and leadership in today’s world.


The programme was inaugurated by Msgr. Alfred John Mendonca, Vicar General of the Diocese of Mysore, who delivered the keynote address. He spoke on Faith Formation, Value Education, and Moral Science, emphasising the Church’s mission to nurture the young with clarity, compassion, and conviction.


Fr. Vijay Kumar Machado, National Secretary of the CCBI Commission for Catechetics and YOUCAT Director for Asia, led a series of insightful sessions. He discussed national trends in catechesis and highlighted YOUCAT’s role in making the faith accessible and engaging for youth. He also guided animators on becoming effective mentors by combining doctrinal teaching with open dialogue. His presentations inspired participants to embrace their roles as faith leaders in schools and parishes with renewed commitment.


Adding further relevance and dynamism, Mr. Anson Nazareth, National Convenor of YCS/YSM India, conducted an interactive session focused on practical application of the YCS/YSM methodology. His session addressed student challenges and stressed the importance of leadership, social awareness, and commitment. Participants found his input both motivating and enriching.


The day’s proceedings were coordinated by Fr. Arul Selva Kumar, Director of the Catechetical Commission, Fr. Maria Xavier, Diocesan Youth Director, and Sr. Monica Shanthi, YCS/YSM Diocesan Animator. Ms. Vileena Gonsalves, Coordinator of the Karnataka Regional Youth Commission, served as the master of ceremonies and highlighted the importance of regional collaboration in youth faith formation programmes.

  • Understanding the challenges faced by today’s students
  • Effective use of YOUCAT and YCS/YSM tools in catechetical and youth ministry

Many expressed appreciation for the informative and inspiring sessions and pledged to carry forward the mission of Christ with renewed enthusiasm.
