Ecumenism and Dialogue Programme Brings Together Over 200 Faithful in Srikakulam

Mariagiri, Srikakulam, January 20, 2026: Reaffirming the Church’s commitment to unity, peace, and mutual understanding among Christian denominations, an Ecumenism and Dialogue Programme was held at Mariagiri in the Diocese of Srikakulam, drawing the participation of more than 200 clergy and lay faithful.

Organised under the leadership of Bishop Rayarala Vijaya Kumar, the programme highlighted the growing importance of ecumenical engagement in today’s ecclesial and social context. Participants reflected on the call to build bridges of harmony and cooperation among Christians, especially amid contemporary challenges affecting faith communities.

A special focus was given to Nostra Aetate, the landmark Church document that promotes dialogue, respect, and peaceful coexistence. The document was presented as particularly relevant in responding to present-day issues of division and misunderstanding. Group discussions that followed witnessed active participation, with members sharing insights and experiences related to inter-denominational relationships.

Fr. Kondaveeti Anthaiah, Secretary for Ecumenism and Dialogue of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CCBI), offered a detailed input session. He explained the theological and pastoral foundations of ecumenism in the light of the Second Vatican Council and outlined the official teaching and approach of the Catholic Church toward Christian unity.

Bishop Pilli Anthony Das of the Diocese of Nellore, who served as the chief guest and resource person, stressed the urgent need for unity and peace among all Christian denominations. He called upon the faithful to embrace harmonious living rooted in mutual respect, openness, and sincere dialogue.

Concluding the programme, Bishop Rayarala Vijaya Kumar expressed his gratitude to the resource persons and participants for their enthusiastic involvement. He also acknowledged the support and contributions of Fr. Duci Devaraj, Fr. Bogi Bala Pushparaj, Vicar General of Srikakulam; Fr. Vijay, Director of the Pastoral Centre; Fr. Dominic Thumma, DGM; and other priests who assisted in organising the event.

The gathering marked a significant step in strengthening ecumenical awareness and reaffirmed the Diocese’s commitment to walking together in faith, dialogue, and Christian fraternity.
