CBSE Mandates Daily Positive Affirmations in Morning Assemblies from Academic Year 2025–26

New Delhi, May 19, 2025: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a directive to all principals and heads of CBSE-affiliated schools across India to include the recitation of daily positive affirmations in morning assemblies starting from the academic session 2025–26. This initiative, announced through an official circular, aims to foster emotional resilience among students, boost their confidence, and cultivate a positive school culture.

The CBSE, committed to promoting the holistic development of students, has outlined that these affirmations—short, meaningful phrases—will help learners begin their day with clarity, calmness, and confidence. The move is rooted in growing awareness of the importance of socio-emotional learning and mental well-being in the school environment.

According to the board, positive affirmations help students build a healthy self-image, emotional strength, and a mindset geared towards growth and stability.

“Regular practice of affirmations has been shown to improve focus, confidence, and mental well-being. Our aim is to help students begin their day with clarity and calmness,” the board noted in its circular.

The Board has provided sample affirmations in both English and Hindi, such as “I am always happy.” “I am calm and stable in every situation.” “I respect everyone. I respect nature.” “I use gadgets only for studying.”

As part of the implementation guidelines, schools are advised to introduce 1–2 age-appropriate and inclusive affirmations during daily assemblies. Institutions may tailor affirmations to reflect their own core values. They are also urged to involve students in the recitation or creation of new affirmations. Schools are also free to display these affirmations on bulletin boards and incorporate them into value education efforts.

CBSE has emphasised that the language of the affirmations can be adapted to the linguistic background of students. School heads are expected to ensure the effective execution of this initiative and to monitor its impact on students’ emotional well-being. They are also encouraged to share feedback and best practices with the Board to enrich the programme further.

With this step, CBSE seeks to nurture emotionally aware, respectful, and confident individuals, aligning with its broader vision of empowering students to shape a better future.
