Cardinal Ferrão Calls for a World Transformed by Love and Humility in Christmas Message

Goa, December 24, 2025: In his Christmas message, Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, reflected on the deep mystery of God’s love revealed through the celebration of Christmas.

Highlighting the central meaning of the feast, Cardinal Ferrão—President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India and the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences—said that Christmas proclaims God’s enduring love for humanity. He drew attention to the humility of the all-powerful God, who chose to enter human history as part of the very creation He brought into existence, in order to uplift humanity and restore communion with Himself.

Addressing the realities of the contemporary world, the Cardinal observed that power and strength are often celebrated today, while peace and justice appear increasingly distant. Against this backdrop, he pointed to the Child of Bethlehem as a clear and compelling message to humanity: love, when lived with humility, possesses the strength to shape a world rooted in peace, justice, and fraternity.

The Archbishop expressed hope that the celebration of Christmas would move people to become agents of transformation. He said the feast should inspire individuals to bring peace to a troubled world, justice to the oppressed, and fraternal love within families and neighbourhoods, with special concern for those in need.

Concluding his message, Cardinal Ferrão, together with Auxiliary Bishop Simião Fernandes, extended heartfelt Christmas greetings to the Catholic community and to all people of goodwill. He prayed that the love and peace of Jesus would remain with everyone always, and conveyed his wishes for a joyful and blessed Christmas, along with a happy and blessed New Year for all.
