Bishop Derek Fernandes Calls for Pilgrimage to Old Goa for St. Francis Xavier Exposition

Belgaum, November 21, 2024: Bishop Derek Fernandes of Belgaum has called on the faithful to undertake a pilgrimage in large numbers to Old Goa. “The decennial Exposition is a sacred and significant event for the faithful, coinciding with the start of the Jubilee Year celebrations. It draws pilgrims from around the world to venerate the relics of this great missionary saint,” he stated.

St. Francis Xavier, renowned for spreading Christianity across Asia, is deeply revered for his unwavering faith and missionary zeal. Reflecting on the significance of the Exposition, Bishop Fernandes noted, “This event serves as a powerful reminder of his legacy and invites believers to reflect on their own spiritual journeys.”

He also encouraged the faithful to visit Old Goa in large numbers on the eve of the global Catholic celebration, which will take place from December 24, 2024 to December 23, 2025.

“This year’s Exposition is particularly special as it marks the Jubilee Year. Beginning the Jubilee Year with this sacred event fosters a renewal of faith, unity, and a deeper commitment to the Church's mission. I urge all the faithful to make a pilgrimage to venerate the relics,” the Bishop concluded.
