Birhu Village in Khunti Diocese, Jharkhand, Gets Classrooms After 93 Years with Communio's Aid

Birhu, Khunti District, Jharkhand, 15 May 2025 — R.C. Primary School, Birhu, under the Catholic Diocese of Khunti, marked a historic milestone as a newly constructed school building was solemnly blessed and inaugurated in the presence of clergy, the faithful, and members of the local community.

The ceremony was presided over by the Most Rev. Binay Kandulna, Bishop of Khunti, and witnessed by Fr. Bisu Benjamin Aind, Vicar General; Fr. Vijay Minj, Secretary to the Bishop and project applicant; Fr. Leo Bhengra; Fr. Manish Barla; Fr. George Hemrom; and numerous faithful from Birhu village and Khunti parish.

For over 93 years, the school functioned in a modest structure made of mud walls, a mud-tiled roof, and wooden bamboo supports. Acknowledging the urgent need for a safer and more conducive learning environment, the initiative for a new building was taken up by Fr. Vijay Minj.

Construction commenced in July 2024, made possible through the generous support of Communio and the Diocese of Jalandhar, whose contributions were instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.

On behalf of the Diocese, Bishop Binay Kandulna and Fr. Bisu Benjamin Aind extended heartfelt thanks to all benefactors, particularly Communio and the Diocese of Jalandhar, for their support and collaboration. They remarked, “This is a moment of great joy and pride for the entire Birhu community. The new school building symbolises hope, progress, and our shared commitment to the education and future of our children.”
