Tral, Jammu and Kashmir | May 15, 2025: Personnel of the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a joint operation early Thursday morning in the Nader area of Tral in Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir, following specific intelligence input, leading to a fierce gunfight between the forces and terrorists. The encounter began when vigilant troops observed suspicious movement during a cordon and search operation and challenged the suspects. The terrorists responded with heavy gunfire, triggering an intense firefight that is still ongoing at the time of reporting.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the development via their official handle on platform 'X'.
The security situation in the region remains tense, with this operation following closely on the heels of intensified counter-terror efforts by Indian forces in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier this week, in a separate encounter, three terrorists, including a top Lashkar-e-Taiba/The Resistance Front (LeT/TRF) commander, were neutralised in a joint operation. Security personnel recovered AK series rifles, grenades, and other war-like materials during that engagement.
Authorities have cordoned off the area in Tral, and reinforcements have been deployed as the operation continues. Further details are awaited.
