Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore Introduces Advent Liturgical Guide

Chennai, November 25, 2024: The Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore has introduced Pilgrims of Hope, a Liturgical Companion for the Advent and Christmas seasons, designed to guide the faithful through a deeper spiritual journey. Prepared by the Commission for Liturgy in collaboration with the Commission for Social Communications, this resource aims to enrich liturgical celebrations by integrating the teachings of the Second Vatican Council into the season's observances.

The companion offers comprehensive liturgies, reflections, devotions and practical challenges for Advent, along with a structured Christmas Novena. It also includes the Advent Wreath and Jesse Tree devotions, encouraging families, catechetical groups, and prayer communities to engage meaningfully with the Word of God. A Tamil version of the companion will soon be available for wider distribution.

The Pilgrims of Hope resource includes liturgical celebrations for all Sundays and Solemnities of Advent and Christmas, with summaries of the four constitutions of Vatican II seamlessly incorporated to deepen understanding. It offers reflective readings to enrich spiritual practices, encouraging the faithful to actively participate in the liturgical season and reflect on the genealogy of Christ. By promoting the companion, the Archdiocese aims to help communities engage more fully in the season’s sacred celebrations and deepen their relationship with Christ.
