Bhopal, June 23, 2025: The Commission for Faith Formation of the Archdiocese of Bhopal conducted a one-day Catechism Teachers' Training Programme on Sunday, 22 June 2025, at the Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Bhopal. A total of 149 catechism teachers from across the archdiocese participated in the programme, which was held to equip them with the knowledge and tools needed to carry out their faith formation efforts more effectively.
The event commenced with registration, coordinated by Mrs. Christina and Mrs. Sheela. Mr. David Thomas led the introductory session, followed by the Bible enthronement, Scripture reading, and prayer led by Fr. Antony. Fr. John Benito, Secretary of the Commission, extended a warm welcome to all the participants and encouraged them in the vital role they play in faith formation within the archdiocese.
Fr. Ben Anton, Principal of St. Aloysius College, Jabalpur, conducted two key sessions during the programme, providing the participants with deep theological and pedagogical perspectives on catechesis and practical tools for classroom engagement.
In the afternoon, Fr. Thomas Antony Raj, Director of the Media and Communication Commission, Diocese of Jabalpur, led a dynamic session on “AI and Catechism”, exploring how modern technology and artificial intelligence can assist in catechetical ministry without compromising its spiritual core.
The spiritual highlight of the programme was the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, presided over by His Grace A.A.S. Durairaj, SVD, Archbishop of Bhopal, and concelebrated by 12 priests. In his homily, the archbishop lauded the dedication and selfless service of the catechism teachers and affirmed their vital role in building the faith of the Church.
Fr. Benito expressed his deep gratitude to Archbishop Durairaj for his unwavering support. He also thanked the parish priests of all parishes in the archdiocese for their continuous cooperation and backing in catechetical ministry efforts.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Fr. Alfred, who recognised the contributions of all attendees, including priests, sisters, and especially the catechism teachers. He also offered special appreciation to Fr. Reboni Asir, Director of the Pastoral Centre, for his support and hospitality.
The training programme served as a vital platform for learning, fellowship, and spiritual enrichment, equipping the catechists with renewed zeal and practical tools for their sacred vocation.
