A New Dawn Emerges for Youth Leadership in Goa

Margao, Goa, June, 2024: The St. John Paul II Complex in Margao, Goa, witnessed a gathering of 33 participants from ten dioceses across the Western Region for the Youth Commission meeting held in the month of June, 2024. Led by the chairman, youth directors, animators and regional team members, the meeting aimed to strategize and empower youth initiatives.


The meeting commenced with a warm welcome from Fr. Blaise Lobo (DYD Goa and Daman) and WRYC President Mr. Nelson Alphonso, setting an enthusiastic tone. The youth from the dioceses actively participated and energized the gathering, showing their vibrant spirit. Fr. Christopher Vaz, the Youth Director of the Western Region, delivered an inspiring speech emphasizing the crucial role of youth in guiding others towards Christ, stressing leadership, faith, and spiritual responsibility. A session led by Fr. Ramiro Luis on "Leading Youth to Jesus" highlighted effective strategies for youth leadership. The day concluded with a reflective rosary and a council meeting to address organizational matters.


Day two commenced with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Most Rev. Bishop Barthol Barretto, Chairman of the Western Region Youth Commission and Bishop of Nashik, advocating proactive living among youth. The Secretary presented a detailed report on regional activities, followed by discussions on ICYM national programs, challenges faced by youth, and future plans. Bishop Barthol concluded the meeting with heartfelt appreciation and blessings, followed by a networking lunch that fostered collaboration among the attendees.


The meeting served as a pivotal platform for nurturing youth leadership and spiritual growth, affirming their commitment to community service and faith.
