Hyderabad, Sept. 18, 2025: 20 transgender individuals have been appointed as security guards at Hyderabad Metro, following computer training conducted by the Montfort Social Institute and Queer Bandhu Parents Association. The appointment letters were formally presented to them by Telangana’s Minister for Transgender Persons, Shri. Adluri Laxman Kumar, during a function held on September 16 at the new Telangana state secretariat in Hyderabad.
Speaking during the event, Minister Kumar stated that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy envisions a society where transgender persons live with self-respect and dignity. He assured everyone present that the state government will extend full support to help members of the transgender community achieve social and economic empowerment.
The induction ceremony was attended by Principal Secretary Anita Ramachandran, IAS, and Shailaja, Director of the Department for Transgenders, Senior Citizens and Disability, Government of Telangana.
MSI Director Bro. Varghese Theckanath S.G. and QBPA President M. Mala were also felicitated during the event for their contributions to the empowerment of transgender people in the community.
MSI has actively supported the transgender community since 2019 by providing training, advocacy, relief and rehabilitation, healthcare, and other essential services. The 20 transgender individuals who secured jobs as security officers had received training in computers during a programme organised by the Montfort Social Institute. The candidates were awarded certificates of completion during a ceremony held at the institute on September 15.
