Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, September 18, 2025— In a joyful and historic milestone for the Catholic community, the Diocese of Srikakulam has officially inaugurated the Sahaya Matha Boarding Home for Boys and Girls on the Cathedral campus. The ceremony, led by Rayarala Vijaya Kumar, PIME, Bishop of Srikakulam, marked a significant step in the Diocese’s mission to uplift the poor and advance education in the region.
The occasion drew national and international dignitaries, including Archbishop Emeritus Malavarapu Prakash, His Excellency Lella Marra, Governor General of the International Organization for Diplomatic Relations (Malta), his wife Ilenia Gentili, Afzal and Deepa, alongside priests, religious sisters, benefactors, students, and faithful from across the Diocese.
A Day of Celebration and Hope
The day began with a ceremonial welcome for the dignitaries, where students showcased vibrant cultural performances reflecting Indian tradition and hospitality. The highlight came with the blessing and inauguration of the new boarding home, hailed as a beacon of hope for underprivileged children seeking a safe environment for education and growth.
Holy Mass and Messages of Encouragement
Archbishop Emeritus Malavarapu Prakash presided over the Holy Eucharist and praised Bishop Rayarala Vijaya Kumar for his commitment to the poor and marginalised. In his homily, he underlined education as a tool of social transformation, remarking:
“Education is the light that dispels the darkness of poverty. The vision of Bishop Rayarala Vijaya Kumar is rooted in Christ’s love for the poor and is bearing fruit through institutions like Sahaya Matha Boarding Home.”
Global Voices of Support
Offering international solidarity, His Excellency Lella Marra spoke with deep appreciation for the Diocese’s work.
“It is deeply moving to witness the work being done here—not only in providing shelter but also in giving dignity, education, and a future to the most vulnerable. This is true diplomacy in action: building bridges of love and compassion,” he said.
His wife, Ilenia Gentili, also commended the Diocese’s mission and hospitality. Other speakers stressed the importance of supporting initiatives that embody the Gospel through action and justice.
Bishop’s Vision for the Future
Bishop Rayarala Vijaya Kumar, visibly moved by the outpouring of support, expressed gratitude to the clergy, faithful, and international partners, particularly the delegation from Italy.
“This is not merely a building. It is a home—a place of learning, growth, and faith. My heart is full of gratitude to everyone who made this dream a reality. Together, we are shaping the future of our children,” he said.
The Bishop reiterated his commitment to strengthening the Diocese’s outreach in education, healthcare, and social development, particularly for rural and tribal communities.
The Sahaya Matha Boarding Home, with separate facilities for boys and girls, promises holistic care, spiritual formation, and academic support for disadvantaged children. Meticulously organised by the priests of the Diocese, the event reflected unity, pastoral zeal, and a shared vision of empowerment through faith.
