New Delhi, January 10, 2025: A disturbing surge in violence against Christians has been recorded in India, with 2024 witnessing 834 incidents over 366 days. This marks a significant rise of 100 incidents compared to the 734 attacks reported in 2023. Data from the United Christian Forum (UCF) Helpline highlights that more than two Christians were targeted daily last year, solely for practicing their faith.
The UCF data, compiled from complaints received over the years, reveals a consistent year-on-year increase in incidents since 2014, when 127 cases were reported. By 2024, the figure has multiplied nearly sevenfold, with notable spikes in recent years.
* 2014: 127 incidents
* 2015: 142 incidents
* 2016: 226 incidents
* 2017: 248 incidents
* 2018: 292 incidents
* 2019: 328 incidents
* 2020: 279 incidents
* 2021: 505 incidents
* 2022: 601 incidents
* 2023: 734 incidents
* 2024: 834 incidents
This alarming trend raises critical questions about the safety of the Christian community in India. The findings not only highlight the growing hostility faced by Christians but also underscore the pressing need for broader societal and governmental engagement to protect the rights and dignity of every individual, regardless of their faith.
