Mysore, December 12, 2025: A powerful expression of Christian solidarity unfolded at Infant Jesus Cathedral, Hinkal, where the United Christian Forum (UCF), Mysuru, hosted its 7th Annual Christmas Get-Together. The gathering brought together bishops, clergy, ecumenical leaders, religious communities, and civic officials in a celebration aimed at strengthening unity and fellowship among Christian denominations.
The event—held under the leadership of Bishop Francis Serrao, SJ, President of UCF—served to renew ecumenical ties and promote collaboration among diverse Christian traditions. Dignitaries included Bishop Mar Sebastian Adayantharath, Bishop Emeritus Antony Kariyil, Major Archbishop Emeritus Augustine Paimpallil, religious superiors, and leaders from Mar Thoma, Orthodox, Jacobite, CSI, Syro-Malankara, Pentecostal, Methodist, Seventh-day Adventist, and Syro-Malabar communities. Civic representatives from MUDA, the Police Department, and the Health Office were also present.
The programme opened with a Gospel reading, communal prayer, and a welcome address by Fr. Arul Selva Kumar. Choir groups from multiple denominations performed Christmas carols, reflecting the region’s cultural and spiritual diversity. Bishop Mar Sebastian delivered a message on unity and compassion, while Bishop Serrao invited the faithful to “make room for Jesus” through humility and service. A symbolic cake-cutting ceremony led jointly by bishops and ecumenical leaders underscored the theme of fraternity.
The celebration unfolded in the evening hours at Infant Jesus Cathedral, the central venue for UCF gatherings in Mysuru, chosen for its accessibility to various Christian communities.
In a highlight gesture, Bishop Serrao personally presented Christmas gifts to all church leaders—a symbol of goodwill and enduring cooperation across denominations. The event was coordinated by the UCF Ecumenism Team led by Msgr. Thomas Thennattil, Rev. John Sagaya Pushparaj, Mrs. Veena Williams, Mr. Joseph Thomas Mamparambil, and Fr. Arul Selva Kumar. Their collaborative efforts ensured seamless organisation and broad representation.
The Christmas gathering reaffirmed the Christian community’s commitment to harmony and nation-building. Leaders described the event as a model of peaceful coexistence and shared mission—demonstrating how unity among churches can serve as a powerful witness in contemporary society.
