Pune Muslim Family Opens Wedding Venue to Hindu Couple Amid Sudden Downpour

Pune, 24 May, 2025: In a moving act of interfaith harmony, a Muslim family in Pune came to the aid of a Hindu couple, when their wedding ceremony was disrupted by an unexpected downpour.

On the evening of 20 May, Maheen and Mohsin Kazi were celebrating their walima (wedding reception) at a hall in the Wanowrie area when heavy rain began to lash the city. Just adjacent to the venue, Sanskruti Kawade Patil and Narendra Galande Patil were moments away from exchanging vows at Alankaran Lawns when the weather took a sudden turn for the worse.

"Everything was ready, and the saptapadi ritual was about to begin when it suddenly started pouring," recounted a member of the Galande Patil family. "We were at a loss for what to do. That’s when we noticed the wedding reception happening next door."

Acting swiftly, the Hindu family approached the Kazis to request temporary use of their hall to complete the ceremony. The response was immediate and whole-hearted—the Muslim family not only agreed, but also cleared the stage to accommodate the Hindu wedding rituals.

Guests from both communities worked together to rearrange the venue, displaying deep mutual respect for each other's customs. Thanks to their efforts, the Hindu couple was able to complete their wedding without any further hindrance.

The evening turned into a shared celebration, as guests from both sides came together to enjoy a communal meal. In a touching moment of unity, both newly-wed couples—Maheen and Mohsin, and Sanskruti and Narendra—posed for photographs together, capturing the spirit of togetherness that had defined the night.

“It was a beautiful evening that reminded us of the strength of human kindness,” said one attendee. “Love and understanding triumphed over all else.”
