Vatican City, February 21, 2025: Pope Francis, who was admitted to Rome’s Agostino Gemelli Hospital on February 14 due to bronchitis, is showing signs of improvement, according to a communiqué released by the Holy See Press Office on Thursday evening. The statement mentioned that the 87-year-old pontiff has no fever, and his haemodynamic parameters remain stable. It added that Pope Francis received the Eucharist in the morning and later engaged in work activities.
Responding to questions posed to him by reporters on Thursday evening, Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, clarified that the Pope’s pneumonia is focal, meaning it affects limited areas of the lungs rather than being widespread. He added that the pontiff breathes independently and his heart function remains stable.
Twice-daily health updates indicate that Pope Francis rests well at night, follows his prescribed treatment, and gets out of bed for breakfast each morning. His gradual recovery continues to be closely monitored by medical staff at the hospital.
