Kalunga, Odisha, August 22, 2025 – Fr. Ajay Kumar Singh, a well-known Catholic priest-cum-educationist based in the Archdiocese of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar, encouraged young Catholics of Risen Christ Church in Kalunga to dream big and pursue professional careers while delivering a career guidance session held on August 17 at the church premises. The session formed part of a two-day youth programme organised by the parish, which falls under the Diocese of Rourkela in Odisha.
Fr. Singh, who also serves as the director of Excellent IAS Academy—a coaching institute in Bhubaneswar dedicated to making civil services preparation affordable for meritorious students—highlighted the importance of hard work and perseverance in achieving success in his session. He also urged the youth to remain focused, disciplined, and determined in their pursuit of careers that can contribute positively to society.
The two-day youth programme, held on August 16 and 17, witnessed the participation of 230 youth from the parish. The first day of the event featured a spiritual recollection led by Fr. Vincent Kullu, SAC, who spoke on the role of youth in the Church and inspired them to contribute meaningfully to its mission. The day also included Eucharistic Adoration, a session dedicated to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and concluded with the Holy Eucharist.
On the second day, the youth joined the parish community for a Mass presided over by Fr. Abhay Kullu, CSsR. In his homily, Fr. Kullu reflected on the power of truth, drawing from the Gospel passage where Jesus says, "He came not to bring peace but fire." He reminded the youth that standing for the truth often involves facing challenges. He also urged them to invest their energy in building their careers, families, society, and the Church rather than succumbing to distractions and addictions.
The event also witnessed the formation of a new parish youth committee to lead activities for the next three years. A Bible quiz based on the Gospel of Mark saw participation from 30 youth members, followed by cultural performances including songs, dances, skits, and games. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks acknowledging priests, organisers, volunteers, and all participants for making the event meaningful and memorable.
