New Year Opens with Marian Faith and Catechesis in Pollachi

Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, January 7, 2026: Faith, tradition and catechesis marked the New Year celebrations at the 108-year-old Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Pollachi, where parishioners gathered for a solemn observance of the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.

The celebration centred on Marian devotion, with children of the parish creatively presenting 22 recognised titles and apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, reflecting her enduring presence in Catholic life. The programme also highlighted the four Marian dogmas—Mary as Mother of God, her Perpetual Virginity, the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption—offering a strong element of faith formation, particularly for the young.

Preaching during the liturgy, Deacon Ajitto Xavier described Mary as the “first tabernacle” and invited the faithful to become living witnesses of Christ through the Eucharist, carrying values of love and service into daily life.

The observance included Eucharistic Adoration, a solemn Mass and a devotional procession with the historic wooden statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, bringing together prayer, tradition and community participation at the start of the New Year.
