Kochi, Kerala, July 9, 2025: The Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) has urged Christian youth across the state to join politics, stressing that avoiding political involvement is not a righteous choice. The KCBC's Youth Commission issued the appeal in a circular on Sunday, July 6. On the same day, churches of various Christian denominations read the circular aloud during their Sunday services.
In the circular, KCBC Youth Commission chairperson Christudas R. stressed that since the current political environment is “chaotic and confusing”, it is not appropriate for youths having leadership skills and critical thinking abilities to keep themselves away from politics. It underscored that the entry of a new generation with knowledge and talent into politics is crucial for addressing various societal issues.
The circular urged Catholic youth organisations to train young individuals with leadership qualities for roles in mainstream politics. It also urged educated and qualified members of the community to consider political participation as a mission, keeping in mind both societal welfare and the interests of the Catholic community.
The circular noted that the rising trend of youth migration abroad in search of employment has further contributed to their diminishing role in local politics.
Church sources stated that the decreasing presence of Christian youths in mainstream parties prompted the Youth Commission to issue the circular.
