India Sees Alarming Surge in Anti-Christian Violence in 2024

New Delhi, August 21, 2024: A shocking spike in violence against Christians in India has sounded alarm bells within the community, with a staggering 447 incidents reported in just 223 days (1 January to 10 August), translating to an average of two attacks per day.

The situation in Manipur is particularly dire, with thousands of Christians displaced and over 300 churches destroyed. Critics accuse local authorities of colluding with perpetrators and turning a blind eye to offenses against Christians.

A Supreme Court petition seeking action against vigilante groups responsible for anti-Christian violence has been stalled due to government non-cooperation since initial hearings in 2022.

Meanwhile, politically motivated laws in 11 states, including Uttar Pradesh's recent amendment bill, threaten religious freedom and have raised concerns about potential violations of Article 25 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to freedom of religion.

The Christian community is urging immediate action to address this escalating crisis and ensure the protection of their rights and safety.
