ICYM Northeast Forges Future Leaders

Guwahati, July 8, 2024: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement Northeast (ICYM NE) region, under the North Eastern Regional Youth Commission (NERYC), held a Live-In Program for the newly elected Regional Executive Committee (REXCOs) in the month of June. The program, following the April 2024 regional elections at Tura Diocese, Meghalaya, took place at the North East Diocesan Social Service Society (NEDSSS) Centre in Kharghuli, Guwahati, Assam. The objective was to train, empower, and develop essential skills such as communication, leadership, and a deeper understanding of Youth Ministry among the new leaders.

The training was led by previous tenure's youth leaders under Fr. John Barman MSFS, Regional Youth Director and Sr. Wansuk Lyngdoh MSMHC, Regional Youth Lady Animator. Key resource persons included Ms. Hulang Magdalene Anal, Mr. Alan Lalrinawma, and Ms. Rima Lucy Ch. Marak, who are also current National Executive members of ICYM.

The program began with a Holy Mass by Fr. John Barman MSFS. Ms. Hulang Magdalene Anal introduced the ICYM NE and NERYC, followed by Ms. Rima Lucy Marak leading the introduction of the REXCOs. Mr. Alan Lalrinawma conducted sessions on communication skills, while Ms. Hulang Magdalene Anal covered group dynamics, leadership skills, and social media's role in youth engagement. Ms. Rima Lucy Marak facilitated group activities to foster teamwork and creativity.

The program included outdoor games and a demo on organizing regional events. The REXCOs also held their first physical meeting, forming seven committees. Sr. Wansuk Lyngdoh MSMHC discussed YCS/YSM and the significance of the Holy Mass and Fr. John Barman MSFS led a session on integrating faith into daily life.

Most Rev. Dr. Linus Neli, Archbishop of Imphal and Chairman of NERYC, visited the program, encouraging youth leaders to show commitment and dedication. The Live-In Program concluded with participants feeling inspired and prepared for their roles, marking a successful start for the new REXCOs.
