Feast of Our Lady of Snows: A Heavenly Miracle Sparked Centuries of Devotion

In the heart of 4th-century Rome, a wealthy, childless couple earnestly sought God’s will on how to dedicate their lives and possessions. Where no flake should exist, a crisp white layer marked the ground. Crowds gathered in awe. Pope Liberius himself came to the site, and with deep reverence, traced the outline of a church in the snow — a blueprint drawn by heaven itself.

It was a moment where nature bowed before the divine. A sign so wondrous and undeniable that it continues to echo through the centuries, calling believers to wonder and to trust.

A Basilica Born of Faith and Wonder

The couple generously funded the construction of the church, and what began as a snowy outline rose into one of Rome’s most treasured Marian shrines: the Basilica of St. Mary Major (also known as Santa Maria Maggiore).
