Dr. Manmohan Singh: Architect of India’s Economic Reforms Passes Away

New Delhi, 26 December 2024: Dr. Manmohan Singh, the 13th Prime Minister of India, is a statesman who has left an indelible mark on the country's history passed away on Thursday, December 26, at the age of 92. His life's journey is a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and vision for a better India.


Born in 1932 in Gah, Punjab (now in Pakistan), Dr. Singh's early life was marked by hardship and struggle. However, his academic prowess and determination earned him a scholarship to study at Cambridge University, where he completed his Ph.D. in economics.


Dr. Singh's entry into politics was marked by his appointment as the Finance Minister in 1991, under the leadership of Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao. His bold economic reforms transformed India's economy, liberalizing trade and commerce, and paving the way for the country's rapid growth.


As Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, Dr. Singh's leadership was characterized by his commitment to inclusive growth, social justice, and strengthening India's position on the global stage. His government implemented several landmark initiatives, including the Right to Information Act, the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, and the Right to Education Act.
