Chikamagalur, 26 July 2025: The priests of the Diocese of Chikmagalur came together for their annual clergy retreat from 21st to 25th July 2025, embracing a sacred period of silence, reflection, and spiritual renewal. Held as a moment of deep communion with Christ, the retreat aimed to strengthen the priests' spiritual foundations, renew their priestly commitment, and foster greater fraternity among the clergy.
This year’s retreat was led by Rev. Fr. Xavier Manavath, CMF, a distinguished Claretian priest and acclaimed preacher. With theological depth, pastoral insight, and a profound spirit of prayer, Fr. Xavier guided the retreatants through the central theme, “Renewed in Spirit, Rekindled in Mission.” His sessions offered rich reflections rooted in Scripture, Church teachings, and his personal ministry, urging the priests to return to the essence of their vocation with new zeal.
Throughout the five days, the retreat featured daily Eucharistic celebrations focused on themes such as priestly identity, pastoral commitment, and Eucharistic spirituality. Fr. Xavier’s meditative preaching encouraged an interior renewal, calling the clergy to a deeper relationship with the Lord through prayer, humility, and faithful service.
The retreat also provided ample time for silent prayer and adoration, allowing priests to engage in personal contemplation. Many availed themselves of the Sacrament of Reconciliation, receiving God’s healing mercy and grace. Though the retreat maintained a spirit of silence, shared meals and community time nurtured fraternal bonds, strengthening unity among the diocesan clergy.
Fr. Xavier highlighted the essential role of the inner life in priestly ministry, calling on priests to be servant-leaders formed in compassion and openness to the Holy Spirit. He urged them to face the shifting realities of pastoral life with courage, creativity, and a renewed sense of mission.
On the concluding day, Most Rev. Dr. T. Anthony Swamy, Bishop of Chikmagalur, offered a Requiem Mass in remembrance of the departed clergy of the Diocese, bringing the retreat to a prayerful close.
