New Delhi, July 30, 2025 — The bail application filed on behalf of the arrested Catholic nuns was not accepted by the sessions court, which stated that it does not have the jurisdiction to grant bail in cases under Section 143. According to the court, the matter must be taken up with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Bilaspur.
The CBCI PRO has confirmed that the legal team will now file the bail plea before the appropriate NIA court at the earliest.
In addition to this, the legal team is also preparing to challenge the judicial custody order. "If the sessions court claims it is not competent to grant bail under Section 143, then on what grounds was the sister remanded to judicial custody in the first place?" the spokesperson questioned.
The Church continues to express deep concern over the legal process and has reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice through due legal means. Further updates are expected once the NIA court hears the bail application.
