Chandigarh, December 21, 2025 — Bishop Sahaya Thatheus Thomas of the Diocese of Simla–Chandigarh said that Christmas calls society to peace, service and responsible care for creation, with a special emphasis on the role of young people in shaping a just and sustainable future.
Speaking at the Christmas Civic Fellowship gathering in Chandigarh on "Youth for Green Tomorrow," the bishop said the message of Christmas goes beyond celebration and invites people to live with social responsibility, solidarity and concern for the environment. He urged the youth to take leadership in protecting nature and promoting harmony in public life.
Referring to the Church’s mission, Bishop Thomas said faith must translate into concrete action for the common good, particularly in addressing ecological challenges and social divisions. He called on citizens to work together across differences to build a more compassionate and responsible society.
The bishop was speaking at the inauguration of the diocesan Christmas exhibition, which highlighted youth engagement and environmental responsibility.
