Goa, January 7, 2025: The Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) organized its inaugural financial management training program for male religious administrators from January 7-11, 2025, at Shanti Sadan, CCBI Secretariat Extension, in Benaulim, Goa. The event, attended by 21 administrators from 17 congregations, aimed to enhance financial transparency and equip participants with the latest knowledge of financial regulations in India.
The course was inaugurated by Most Rev. Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, with the Holy Eucharist. Cardinal Ferrao urged participants to embrace humility and transparency in their financial responsibilities, presenting the synodal Jesus as a model of leadership. The sessions featured expert speakers, including Fr. Duming Gonsalves, Administrator of Shanti Sadan; Rev. Dr. Alexio Menezes; and chartered accountants Mr. Sunil Gonsalves and Mr. Gaver S. Lobo.
This initiative underscores the CCBI’s commitment to fostering sound financial practices among religious institutions. The training provided participants with essential insights into financial management, legal compliance, and contemporary challenges in administration.
Beyond the classroom, the attendees participated in a pilgrimage to Goa’s iconic religious and historical landmarks, including the Sé Cathedral, Church of the Cross of Miracles, and the Tomb of Agnel in Pilar. Visits to St. Joseph Vaz Church in Sancoale and St. John Baptist Church in Benaulim enriched their spiritual experience. The program not only reinforced financial accountability but also highlighted the importance of integrating faith and service in administrative roles, marking a significant step forward in the CCBI’s efforts to empower religious leaders.
