CBCI Calls for Nationwide Prayer Ahead of Papal Conclave on May 7

New Delhi, May 5, 2025 — The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) has called upon all on all dioceses, parishes, religious houses, and chapels across India to hold special prayers and a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration on May 7, when the College of Cardinals enters Conclave in Vatican City to elect the 267th Pope.

The appeal was made by CBCI President, Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath, through a circular issued on May 5, addressed to all bishops, clergy, religious, and lay faithful of the Catholic Church in India. In it, Archbishop Thazhath emphasized the solemn significance of the upcoming Conclave, which will select the 267th successor of Saint Peter as the new Supreme Pontiff.

Calling it a “grace-filled moment,” the Archbishop requested that a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration be organized across the country on the day the Conclave begins. He appealed for fervent prayers that the Church may be blessed with a holy, wise, and courageous leader — a true shepherd after the heart of Christ — who can guide the global Catholic community in today’s challenging times.

He also urged the faithful to invoke the Holy Spirit’s guidance during this pivotal moment in the life of the Universal Church.

Concluding his message, Archbishop Thazhath invoked the intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church, and extended greetings of peace and hope in the Risen Lord to all believers.
